Leaving For China

Leaving For China

Monday, May 12, 2008

The day has finally arrived, I’m actually going to China!  I was up at 4:00 A.M. to catch my flight from home to Chicago and then the connecting flight direct to Bejing.  Didn’t sleep much last night in anticipation but that is really a normal and great feeling (believe it or not!)  Last night I watched an 8 minute video of the China Wall Marathon again just to visualize the steepness of the steps and to confirm that I will be hiking up to save my energy for the more even parts and then hopefully having enough energy to ascend the wall again at the end!  I must say that this is truly a dream come true.

I have packed all the essentials that I believe I’ll need, perhaps too much.  Food, one of the most important parts of all my trips, ranked high on the list of must haves in my suitcase.  I brought oats, applesauce, shakes (to make with bottled water,), bars, raisins and whatever healthy alternative I could think of in order to get the appropriate amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.  One of my major concerns as I start this years travels is being sure not to contract any digestive problems….therefore everything but the kitchen sink went in!!  I’m really going to miss my portable frying pan and oatmeal pancakes (for those who know me well this used to be a staple on my foreign races) but fire alarms are everywhere in hotel rooms now.

No matter how much I prepare or try to anticipate I am sure it will pall in comparison to the actual day and event.  One thing that I am sure of is that I am going with the encouragement and blessings of my family and friends.  I will have the “Scroll of Honor” attached to me giving me the inspiration that I am sure I’ll need as I climb and run that day.  I will also have Rich Craig from Caron Renaissance and Sara, my daughter-in-law making the same grueling trek for 26.2 miles.  Each of us will be able to share, cry and rejoice after we cross the finish line knowing that not only will we have accomplish our own personal goals but helped others to dream and accomplish theirs.

I look forward to hearing from you and don’t forget to send your friends to our website, and the donation page.  We’re on our way to raising $1 Million Dollars and need all your help to make it happen.

Dreaming Big & Living the Experience….you can too!!!

Linda you continue to be an incredible inspiration to everyone around you.  Who would think a year ago you would be racing on the Great Wall of China?  I wish you the best and everyone in your party.  May you obtain your goals and also have time to enjoy the sights of the amazing land you are in.  Can not wait to hear your stories when you return.

Love.........Barbara
